Points on your License vs. car insurance rate

Your driving history is a major factor in how your risk is viewed and how your premium gets calculated. In New Jersey you can have up to 3 points removed from your license 1 year after any of the following occurs:
• Your last moving violation.
• You’ve had 0 violations for at least 1 year prior.
• You complete a driver improvement program. Credit can only be received every 2 years.  You can order a copy of your NJ driving record for a $15 fee.

LIABILITY COVERAGE
Liability Coverage pays damages due to bodily injury and damage to another’s property for which you are legally responsible. If you’re sued, it also pays your defense and court costs. Medical expenses, pain and suffering, and lost wages are some examples of what Bodily Injury Liability may cover. Property Damage Liability covers damage to property and loss of its use.State of New Jersey sets a minimum coverage level for bodily injury at 15,000 per person, 30,000 per accident. Property damage is set for minimum of 10,000. The higher your limits, the more protection we will have.

MEDICAL PAYMENTS COVERAGE
If you were injured in an accident, Medical Payments Coverage will pay reasonable medical and funeral expenses up to specified limits for covered persons.The coverage is not required by most states, but it provides great coverage at an affordable price. The cost will correspond to the limits you select. There are no deductibles or copays, so this coverage can pay from the first dollar of incurred, covered expenses.

COLLISION COVERAGE
Collision Coverage will pay for damage to a covered vehicle caused by the following, subject to a deductible: collision with another vehicle, collision with an object, a vehicle rollover.

COMPREHENSIVE COVERAGE
Comprehensive coverage helps pay for loss of or damage to an insured vehicle, not caused by a collision or vehicle rollover, like fire, wind, hail, flood, vandalism, theft, hitting an animal. This coverage is subject to a deductible.

UNINSURED/UNDERINSURED MOTOR VEHICLE COVERAGE
Uninsured Motorist Coverage will pay for damages when you are injured in a car accident caused by another person who does not have sufficient liability insurance. Medical expenses, pain and suffering, and lost wages are some examples of bodily injury damages.

CAR RENTAL
Rental Reimbursement pays the cost of renting a replacement vehicle if your car is disabled after an accident, so you don’t have to interrupt your daily routine.

EMERGENCY ROAD SERVICE
Emergency Road Service provides costs incurred for towing your vehicle to a repair facility, mechanical labor at the place of breakdown when your vehicle becomes disabled, pulling your vehicle out of a location where it is stuck, delivery of gas or oil, assistance with changing a tire, a jumpstart and locksmith services.

Beware of thiefs

According to insurance companies, one in every five motorcycles become the subject of theft claims; it is presumed that almost ¼ of that figure involves fraudulent claims. Most stolen bikes are Hondas, the least are Harleys. Make sure your policy contains the comprehensive coverage.

MOTORCYCLE

BODILY INJURY LIABILITY
Bodily Injury Liability typically covers damages that result from the injury or death of another driver or a guest passenger on your motorcycle when you are at fault.
Some of the things you may be liable for include medical expenses, lost wages, and pain and suffering.

PROPERTY DAMAGE LIABILITY
Property Damage Liability typically covers damages that result from the damage to another person’s property when you are at fault. Some of the things you may be liable for include vehicles, private residences, and storefronts and other structures.

UNINSURED/UNDERINSURED MOTORIST BODILY INJURY
This coverage typically covers damages that result from the injury or death of you or a passenger on your motorcycle caused by an uninsured or underinsured driver.

MEDICAL PAYMENTS
Medical Payments typically covers reasonable and necessary medical expenses that are the result of any injury to you or your passengers. Some examples of expenses that might be covered include ambulance, hospital, x-ray, dental, and surgical.

PERSONAL INJURY PROTECTION
If you’re hurt in an accident, or worse, expenses could add up faster than you imagine. That’s where this coverage can help, with reimbursements for medical and hospital expenses, lost income, services you would normally do yourself, funeral expenses, child care expenses.
You’re typically covered regardless of who was at fault.

COLLISION
It typically covers damages to your motorcycle that result from a collision with another object, which could include another car or motorcycle, a tree, or a building.

COMPREHENSIVE
Comprehensive Coverage typically covers your bike if it’s stolen or damaged by flooding, wind, vandalism. Comprehensive Coverage typically covers the cost of repairing or replacing your bike, up to the actual cash value.

TOWING
Typically reimburses you (up to the applicable limit) for getting your bike to the shop if it breaks down or is in accident.
